6 Things Your Insurance Won’t Cover

6 Things Your Insurance Won’t Cover

Sometimes you don’t appreciate the things that you do until you see them through the eye of someone else. That’s how “6 Things Your Chiropractic Insurance Won’t Cover” was born. Here’s the short story. The Observant New Patient Ms. Smith (not her real name), was filling out some paperwork as a new patient at my office. She had been taking a longer time than most doing this. It took longer because she’d stop her writing to observe my patients go in and out. I was busy with treating my patients as she watched. When I got her back to my consultation room she said, “You’re patients sure look happy, I hope you can help me too”. Now, that’s always nice to hear and I thanked her for the compliment. I continued with her doing a thorough history, functional exam, neurological exam, Chiropractic exam, and x-rays, like I do with all my patients. When I finished I explained what was wrong with her, how we would treat her, why we were treating her, what we expected from her, and what the expected outcome would be. She said, “I’ve never had a doctor spend so much time with me and do such a detailed exam, whatever you say, I’ll do”. Ms Smith went on to tell me that she’s had these problems for years and has tried different doctors, medical and otherwise, with little or no results. She was frustrated with the past but was hopeful about the future. I gave her the treatment schedule that was necessary and informed her that her insurance would only cover a portion of what... When is “Your” Independence Day?

When is “Your” Independence Day?

When is your Independence Day? “I’m a Merican, my Independence Day is July 4th” is what most of you will say. Most likely this will be true, sort of. We Celebrate every year since 1776 the date of July 4th as our country’s day of Independence against being pushed around and kept down by the man (“The  Man” back then was Britain). But we didn’t go from “ok, whatever you say King” to “I’m as mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore”. If you look at the history it was June 7th that Virginia’s delegate Richard Henry Lee put a motion across for our Country’s Independence. Of course, politicians can’t do anything without a committee. They had 5 men write up a document explaining why we needed to leave. The committee included, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Robert Livingston, and Robert Sherman. The Continental Congress met again on July 2nd and passed the legislation for us to declare our Independence. We were going to officially “peace out” from Britain. John Adams was so excited about this historic day that he told his wife, “for generations to come we will Celebrate July 2nd as the birth of our country”. On July 4th Thomas Jefferson presented The Declaration of Independence which was approved by the Congress and it was that day we Celebrate today. So, When exactly did we declare Independence? Richard Henry Lee decided that it should be June 7th. John Adams was convinced that it happened on July 2nd, so much so, that he boycotted July 4th Celebrations. Lastly, Thomas Jefferson and the Congress... Read More

How to find the Best Doctor for you

Know what you’re Looking For People always ask me how do I find the best Doctor. I always ask the question, “What are you looking for?”. The definition of “Best Doctor” can mean many things. Do you want someone to easily give you medication and make symptoms go away (for a little while)? Maybe you’d want an expert in physiology, anatomy, and neurology?, or you want someone that simply accepts your insurance?, what exactly do you want? That’s the first step…KNOW YOUR OUTCOME. Ask questions Most people think that the answers are the most important thing you can get out of a doctor’s visit. In actuality if you never asked yourself what you’re there for, you won’t get what you need. You’ll get what the Doctor thinks you need. You probably will be given something (an answer) i.e. drug, adjustment, vitamin, or surgery. That may satisfy you for a a while, but you really won’t be fulfilled, will you? I mean if you don’t know what question you’re trying to get an answer to any answer will do. That’s the biggest problem that I see to day, Doctor’s and Patients are rarely on the same page.   Think About it If you’re looking for the cause of a why you’re always tired and grumpy. Let’s say you go to a Large HMO (which will remain nameless for obvious reasons). They need to turn a patient “interaction” in 5 minutes or less to keep their quota. You will get a vitamin B12 shot, advice on more sleep (duh!), and maybe a blood test. Now, none of those are going to explain... Read More
Home Schooling Event: Hosted by Yorba Linda Family Chiropractic March 21

Home Schooling Event: Hosted by Yorba Linda Family Chiropractic March 21

Thinking about Home Schooling in Yorba Linda? Or, for that matter, home schooling anywhere? We will be hosting a Home Schooling information day presented by Discovery Learning on Tuesday March 21, 6:30pm-8:30pm. If you are currently home schooling or thinking about the possibility, I highly recommend you attend this event. Discovery Learning will be presenting the film “Class Dismissed”  which takes a fresh look at home schooling and explaining how and why home schooling works. Why Home Schooling Now? There is a massive movement towards home schooling over the past few years and it’s only picking up momentum. Here you will get the answers why. Why is a Chiropractor involved with this? Because I see people everyday being destroyed by stress. You know, stress is physical, chemical, and emotional and it’s affects are all the same. One of the main stressors I see in my office is parents stressed about their kids. Many parents are unhappy with their children’s schooling. Too much homework, not enough homework, bullying, common core, fundraising, too man extra curricular activities, not enough activities, mandatory vaccinations, not enough vaccinations, and the list goes on and on. Parents are feeling powerless. It used to be public or private, take it or leave it. Now, there are so many options out there that many aren’t aware of and that’s why I’m helping out with this event. Anything that we can do to help decrease the amount of stress for our patients and community, I’m all in. If you, or someone you care about, are suffering from pain or affects of stress give us a call 714-777-2500 and... Read More
Yelp a Chiropractor in Yorba Linda…I was shocked!!

Yelp a Chiropractor in Yorba Linda…I was shocked!!

Have you ever Yelped “Chiropractor in Yorba Linda?”. neither have I. So when I got a call from the Corporate Offices of Yelp the other day that said that they needed to talk to me regarding my Yelp page. I assumed that wanted to sell me something or I was in trouble. Those are my “go to” feelings when I get an unsolicited phone call from anyone. When I answered the phone the Yelp person on the other end simply said, “Congratulations”. I asked, “for what?”. The Yelp representative said that you are the NUMBER ONE, Chiropractor in Yorba Linda and surrounding areas on Yelp. Also, you have ONLY 5 Star reviews…that is very, very rare. She walked me through my reviews and statistics (I didn’t even know that they had statistics…NSA has nothing on Yelp) and showed me step by step exactly how we CRUSHED IT on Yelp. I have to say that I was even impressed…but, not with me but you. Thank You for Great Yelp Reviews Of Course, all businesses try to be the best . This is mostly for profits which is great, that’s how free market works. However, my business is a calling or my life’s purpose. So, I set a standard to do my very best for the patient because I have to. I’m not fulfilled unless I’m the best version of myself .Which, in turn, helps you become the best version of yourself. So, what impresses me is that my patients take the time to rate me in such high regards on Yelp and Google or just referring me to their friends.... Read More
Presidential Election; How to Deal with Stress

Presidential Election; How to Deal with Stress

Stress is a good way to describe the 2017 presidential election. This election should’ve come with instructions of how to deal with stress. Never before has this country been so divided on direction and leadership. It was inflamed and down right dirty on both sides. Even if you didn’t have a “dog in the fight’ it was hard to watch. The worst thing is that the affects of what went on can stay with you long after this event is over. This is exactly why I created my lecture “Never Say, “It’s Just”, Stress Again” and developed a treatment technique around stress. Most people don’t put the pieces together and realize the devastating affects of stress. When you take care of the stress, you abolish the end results. The end results are pain, chronic disease, and poor thinking patterns. We’ve been trained in this country to get rid of the symptom but not the cause. We often will hear “it’s genetics”, “you’re just getting older”, “if you’d just loose a little weight”, or “there’s nothing wrong”. All of these are half truths at best. Basics of Stress Stress can be physical, chemical, or emotional. No matter which one causes you stress, the body reacts the same. It goes into “fight or flight” and everything speeds up. Muscles tighten, digestion and healing stop, heart rate rises, rational thinking stops, and those are just the basic things that happen. However, they all happen at the same time, no matter what triggers you. The amount of reaction is directly related to the perceived threat at the time. With this election,... Read More
Neck Pain From Sitting; The #1 Mistake People Make

Neck Pain From Sitting; The #1 Mistake People Make

I just had a young man come into my office with constant neck pain. He is a in his late 20’s, relatively good shape and works in the tech industry. When I asked about his hobbies and other interests he told me that he liked to dabble in graphic design and video editing. This guy’s whole life is wrapped around sitting. He sits at work, he sits for his hobbies, and he sits when he’s resting. Worse yet he is not alone. most people spend most of their days sitting.   What’s his problem? He showed up to my office because a friend of his told him that I can get rid of neck pain fast. This patient presented to my office with a deep constant ache and what he described as “always tight”.  Upon further questioning, he revealed that the neck pain changed as the week progressed. The pain became sharp and would his neck would “lock up”. Headaches started at the base of his neck and would shoot to his temples or behind his eyes. If he continued to work the neck pain would turn to burning into his mid back and tingling/numbness would start down to his hands. Even his low back would start to get stiff and sore right above his butt. He said the neck pain was bad but his energy was just being drained and by 3pm he could hardly think straight. Being a “Knowledge Worker” this was affecting his paycheck. So, his problem wasn’t really the neck pain the problem was his neck pain was stopping him from making a living.  ... Read More
Why Won’t My Insurance Cover Me?

Why Won’t My Insurance Cover Me?

Do you accept your Insurance? A new answer.   Do you accept my insurance? As a doctor this is one of the 2nd or 3rd questions I get, right after “Do you know anything about…, I’ve got this thing…”. after someone finds the answer or possible solution to their health problem. People want to see if they qualify, or financially if it will be taken care of or “covered”.  After all, you pay a lot of money for your insurance and when you have a problem you want it taken care of, right? There are so many different insurance companies with so many different plans. You  may have, HMO, PPO, POS, Flex Spend, Health Savings Account, Medicare, Medicaid, and the list can go on and on. It used to be that if you had a problem, found a doctor that would work with the insurance companies, get your services. The doctor received his compensation, and the insurance company delivered on their promises. Everything is a win/win. Insurance rules have Changed Today we have a completely different problem. Now, when a prospective patient asks me, “Do you accept my insurance?” I ask them, “Do you accept your insurance?”. The reply if get is often just a puzzled look, and for good reason I guess. I know that you are very aware that the insurance industry has changed drastically the past couple of years. Sure the names are still the same, and the cards still look the same but the benefits have changed dramatically. The treatment options, the diagnostics, conditions we’re allowed to treat, and even a getting an appointment have... Read More
